is a rare Chin Hill Tribe Seed Bead Necklace / Belt made from ancient Glass Beads; can be worn as a necklace or a belt. Worn by men and women of the Chin People who live in the Chin State in Western Burma.
Glass beads have been traded throughout Asia since the time of the 16th-century Portuguese traders.
The Chin people are renown for their elaborate bead and glass jewelry and vintage pieces like this are extremely rare and difficult to obtain as they are prized by their owners and are normally passed down from one generation to the next. I was fortunate to have been able to obtain this piece in a Chin village during my travels around Southeast Asia. The Chin People have been trading in beads for centuries and Venetian and Chinese glass if very valuable to them. Some of the glass beads contained in this necklace could be hundreds of year old.
